बस यूँही………

On our walk the other day we saw a bunch of very small birds, very busy in house building. These are Baya Weaver birds. Over the years we have seen many of these building scores of these intricate nests with a unique entry/exit portals. We are always impressed by the industriousness of these tiny birds. At least in our area they only do it on thorny branches of Acacia trees. My thoughts came out in a verse form.

An instinctive architect…….

On green meadows where grasses sway,
A tiny king, the Baya weaver, toils away,
With blades of grass, he weaves his nest,
A marvel of skill, a true work of art, at best.

On thorny Acacia branches, high and steep,
He builds his home, his sweat, his labor, his sleep,
In intricate patterns, he weaves and knots,
A masterpiece, born from his tiny thoughts.

The male bird toils, his feathers worn and bright,
Hoping to win, the heart of his female in sight,
For she will come, and inspect with care,
The nest he’s built, with precision and flair.
.
But hard work, doesn’t always guarantee,
The reward he seeks, the love he hopes to see,
For though he builds, with all his might and main,
The female’s choice, is not always gained.
.
Yet still he tries, with every blade and thread,
To build a home, that will make her heart be fed,
For in the end, it’s not just about the nest,
But the love and care, that he puts into every quest.

I tried to capture the Baya weaver bird’s remarkable dedication to building a beautiful and intricate abode, and the vulnerability that comes with pouring one’s heart into something without any guarantee of success. I thought it was a lovely idea and one that involves hard work , and I hope I could do the industriousness of the bird a modicum of justice.
