Come hither……..

The singer adored the great Rafisaab ( who doesn’t even now) and even became his shagird. He got great fame in a different genre, as he virtually held an exclusive franchise in singing energetic patriotic songs which he did with great élan. However he could sing very romantic, honey-soaked, treacly sweet songs with aplomb and these remain fresh in one’s memory to this date. If you hear these songs, you feel the man has had a Jekyll and Hyde like image in Bollywood music.

A very silken duet from Dhool ka phool produced by B R Chopra. The film marks the directorial debut of Yash Chopra. The movie’s theme of an orphan from a different religion being brought up by foster parents was flipped around 180 degrees with reversal of religion for both the foster family and the foundling in Dharmaputra. Dhool Ka Phool had Rajendra Jubilee Kumar and Mala Sinha in the lead. The difference between their emotive abilities couldn’t be more starkly brought out than in this song, a wonderful romantic duet between Mahendra Kapoor and the great Asha Bhosle
.
The verse is by Sahir Ludhiyanvi and the deliberately dreamy delicious composition is by N Dutta.

I love the way Ashatai’s faux sleepy, seductive come hither invitations with the mmmmmmm are enacted on-screen by Mala Sinha. Jubilee Kumar’s great luck in achieving commercial success is to me, inexplicable. He had a smirk for a seductive smile and could move his left eyebrow. That’s about it.
.
Later in his career he went to the extent of shaving his legs and wearing skirts and other outrageous costumes as well. But despite being hugely emotively challenged he did meet a humongous amount of success, being blessed with the Midas touch, earning him his epithet.
.
Mahendra Kapoor through his hard work and perseverance did make a niche for himself in Bollywood, despite coming in at a time of very big singers.

Stay blessed folks. Have a great day ahead. Hydrate yourselves well.

  2. one of the great songs by Mahendra kapoor . Rajendrakumar succeeded mainly because he entered Bollywood at right time when big three Dev Raj and Dilip were past their career peak and there was no comparable newcomer.

  4. Very nice song, evergreen. It still is a favourite of many, especially among seniors. But, your style of writing and detailing are very interesting to go through.

  5. This is almost a game changer song in the movie,

which explains the seductive tone of Ashaji,

the pair supposedly go beyond their limits and carnal desires win … eventually giving birth to

DHOOL KA PHOOL…. As ofcorse marriage for some reason doesn’t take place( for those who may not have seen the movie 👆🏼)…

Hence this pivotal song does its job very well and has become very popular too..

I give full credit to N DUTTA..👍👍👍at the cost of sounding biased 😅
